Eye surgery update!

Got the boys up at 7:15 ish. Talon woke up like a champ. Logan on the other hand fell asleep every step of the way. Got us all to my moms by 7:45. We were told to be at the hospital by 8:30 and we wanted to not push the time like we usually do. So we got to Nanas and Logan got really upset. He wanted to get out and stay with her. We were all checked in and registered and waiting by 9. Logan say and read a coloring book they fave him about surgery. His surgery was scheduled for 1030. He was playing games on my kindle most if the time "bad piggies" is quite the favorite. At this point we were all starting to starve. The anesthesiologist and doctor finally came in around 11:15. They told us the first surgery went over because of complications. I got myself dressed up in a ridiculous looking sterile outfit. I got to go with him into the OR for his anesthesia. (He got to ride in a cool wagon to get from his room to the OR) I took him back at 11:20 so I'm guessing surgery actually started some time around 11:30. We didn't see him again until a little after 1:00. What a miserable experience. He came out of anesthesia in complete misery. Worse than his brain surgery. They couldn't give him any real pain killers because they needed him to be alert enough to check his eyes. It was heart breaking. None of the staff could care less about his pain. They completely ignored him and our requests for help. I was told all we could do was watch him and hold his hands so he couldn't grab things. This went on for a good hour. He was squirming and grabbing at his eyes and iv and it was just so so sad. It took them a whole lot of effort to be able to check his eyes so we could go. I was do glad to be out of there, I was really very irritated with the staff there. Then we picked up the baby and came home.

On Saturday he had his follow up. In the waiting room I got to talk to the mother of the boys who's surgery was before Logans (the one that took extra time from complications). She was nice, and just as upset with the hospital as we were. Everything at the check up was good. He's doing good now. He was on Tylenol over the weekend. He also needs an eye ointment 3 times a day for a week, then 2 times a day for a week and then 1 time a day for a week. He's getting pretty good about "eye goop". No violent squirming or screaming =p He does squint very tightly but I'm pretty sure that's natural to everyone, even grownups. He's gotten a lot better about keeping his hands away from his face. The redness and swelling has gone down a lot.

His eye contact is already better in my opinion. Its a great sight to see him actually look at me =)
