Recovery Room

Friday

Friday morning we got the go ahead to be transported to a real room. First we had to make a quick stop into radiology to get a follow up CT scan done. That only took about 10 minutes. The nurses wheeled Logans bed up to the neuroscience recovery wing and there we were, in room limbo. The PICU room he left was mid cleaning, and the recovery room was mid cleaning. We literally traded rooms with whoever this other patient was. They were stuck in room limbo too. It was the cleaning guys first day (alone) on the job, so he took his time to make sure it was thorough.

Most of the day he just lazed in bed, he's a fan of just sleeping away the pain. We tried to get him to eat and drink, he was really reluctant to do so. Finally we got a couple of crackers and OJ into his belly, it felt like a win. Lucky me though, as soon as everyone left the room and I was alone with him, he threw up everywhere.

His poor bumble bee and blanket had to get removed for cleaning. We sat him up and changed the sheets for the first time. He got a wipe down bath and had the bandage removed, again. It was covered in yuck and so was his incision so they cleaned him up and decided to just let it be. From there on out he's only had bacitracin on it.

Logan really favors laying to one side, his neck is VERY stiff.

Visitors for that day were Nana, Nammy, Pops, and Uncle Jacob

Saturday

He's feeling more and more like himself every day. We saw PT (physical therapy) and OT (occupation therapy) today. They got him up and about walking around the hallways. Logan was glad to be unhooked from his wires. We kept walking even after they were finished. We walked around the whole wing, in circles, cutting across the middle rows, he was just happy to be moving. He found the elevators. He tried to escape. We went for a ride up and down, he even tried to jump in the elevator (habit started by Daddy awhile ago).  Logan hates it here, he wants nothing to do with his bed or this room. We took another walk later in the day. I tried to take him into the play therapy room, he wanted nothing to do with it. It was really lame, I don't blame him, all the cool stuff was locked away over the weekend. Apparently weekends are "slow" at a hospital, even half the cafeteria was closed O.o.

We had a lot of visitors on Saturday. We had Nana, Nammy, Pops, Crunchy, Booba, Pop Pop, Samantha, Nathan, Becca, Eden and Saigelyn. Nammy had brought everyone Dunkin Donuts before she left for her meeting. As soon as people left to walk her out my genius of a child decided to try and manipulate me. He knew he needed to eat and drink to get out of the hospital. He took a half sip of water, looked at me and said "OK, donut!" It does not work like that mister!!! I got to see my babycakes again, Talon looks so much bigger even though he's only been away from me two days. While I was taking a nap Logan got to skype with Aunt Cheryl and Grandma Barb in Texas.

Logan was extra snuggly now that he was somewhat mobile. Instead of sleeping in bed, he insisted on napping on the sofa with one of us. I slept at Children's with him Saturday night, Danny went back to Ronald McDonald though, he couldn't sleep on the sofa/bed/thing that was in the room. I, on the other hand, can sleep fine almost anywhere. That is unless of course monitors beep at me ALL NIGHT LONG because Logan rolled over onto the wires.

On another note from that day, preteen girls are crazy.

Sunday

We took another morning stroll. He's still incredibly wobbly. Finally starting to eat somewhat normally. Dr. Magge said we could probably go home Monday if his recovery keeps going like this. So depending on Logans behavior we could be out of here by tomorrow! Unfortunately for us, the doc used the word "home" in front of Logan, so he started flipping out and trying to get out of bed. He tried to jump out of bed while still attached to an IV. Logans becoming more and more reluctant to get in the hospital bed. He finally used the potty and is in big boy boxers again, yay!

His stitches are looking beautiful and some look like they're already beginning to dissolve. Logan went to bed and Daddy left for RMHC again. The beeping kept me up, again.

Monday

I was at the hospital alone in the morning when Dr. Magge came up with the entire neurosurgery crew. They stood outside of the door talking about Logan before they came in, I heard bits and pieces of what they were saying. Things like "I showed you" and "that very large syrinx" etc. He had mentioned we would probably be leaving today. Logan took me out for another "walking" as he says. Around 9 the nurse came in and told me that the discharge orders had been put in. Well clearly we weren't going anywhere since Daddy wasn't even at Children's yet. Nammy and Daddy showed up within minutes of each other (we needed the truck to help carry stuff... we had a lot of stuff) So I got the paperwork signed off and we left. We went back to RMHC to do all of our checking out, we had to clean our rooms and wash our linens and everything. I guess thats why its only 10 dollars a night. Our room was almost completely unused so it was pretty quick. We checked out and they didn't even ask for money. We asked them and they were being very generous and made it seem completely unnecessary. Obviously we made sure to pay them anyways.
